Automakers spend a tremendous sum to hide their upcoming vehicles during development, but all it takes is a well-aimed gust—and perhaps a sub-par job of securing the wrappings—to literally blow the cover off a protected prototype. That’s what happened with the 2011 Dodge Charger, which our spies caught, snout fully exposed.
The bare, steeply raked schnoz represents a sort of reversal of tradition, in that it makes this street car resemble a hunkered-down NASCAR stocker—rather than when NASCAR’s racers used to look like street cars. Together with the slope of the hood, the aggressive cant of the headlights imbue the face of the Charger with extra menace it probably didn’t need, but we dig it just the same. And, once the 500-plus-hp, 6.4-liter Hemi anticipated in the upcoming Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 makes its way under the Charger’s hood as expected, this car can’t have too much swagger.
