351. That is the total count of contributors.
Assumptions:
1. We will have 500 contributors for this funding drive.
2. Taking a percentage of the people voting yes we get 500*42/60=350 (this changes as the voting continues)
Cash flow with paid membership
------------------------------
$8750 per month or a $105,000 per year.
Result:
Probability of getting newer members is less. Contributions to funding drive may decline altogether if we do not allow people who visit the site to ask questions.
To generate the same cash flow with monthly funding drives
---------------------------------------------------------
assuming an average of $50 per month=175 people.
Probability of getting more people to contribute per month is higher. Getting more commitments is higher. Getting commitment from different set of people is higher and many may chose to make one time payments.
I may be wrong but I am open to other calcs as well.

I have somewhat uderstood the rulemaking process. What I fail to understand is that since the rule to stop labor substitution is the final rule, does it mean that this rule has been implemented? Or is the next step for OMB to approve the final rule?
I am confused!

oh and yes, it is easy to file a claim with DOL on your employer - since YOU paid the fees employers has already did bad.
the form is WH-4 - http://www.dol.gov/whd/forms/wh-4.pdf
here is the article on this matter - Underpaid the Prevailing Wage? 5 Reasons an H-1B Employer Should Settle Your Complaint U.S. Business and Immigration Law (http://vkvisalaw.wordpress.com/2008/11/14/underpaid-the-prevailing-wage-5-reasons-an-h-1b-employer-should-settle-your-complaint/) - it is about underpaying, but it contains other things important to you.
you may actually settle an agreement with this employer, so that he pays you paystubs you could use for H-1 transfer so that you do not go to courts. But have a lawyer involved in this.

How about we start donating services for the IV. I am ready to donate my time and use my energies to generate money for the IV. Ideas can be
1. Shampoo your car ($20)
2 Wash your car ($25)
3 Donate personal DVD's to be rented out to fellow Desis ($2)
4 Dinner and a Movie organized by state chapters. ($100)
5 Collect Cans to recycle
6 More Ideas
Hey, dude, I hope that this was a joke :D
Because I doubt that anyone willing to wash my car for a few bucks is highly skilled. Personally, I prefer, give 1 day of salary - that's way over $25, and far more effective (I get paid more than $25 for the time it takes to wash a car).
[edited]
Huum, I rather thing that it was not a joke. No offense intended.
The dinner and movie is the best idea.
Actually I think that the other ideas to be "less than optimal", thus I thought they were a joke.

Here is another question. Its about leadership but uses immigration as an example.
"This is just one example of our political status quo: America's LEGAL immigration system is in dire need of a reform. Even though the members of Congress agree to that, they are not able to or not willing to bring about such a reform. Their hands are tied because of a certain powerful focus group who won't allow ANY immigration reform unless it encompasses a comprehensive reform of a well-known controversial issue. Innocent people always get hurt in a war. And in this conflict its the legal immigrants, who have not broken any laws, are the ones who are suffering the most. Senator Obama, as the President of the United States, what will you do, so that the voice of the people can be heard and their problems solved instead of selected powerful groups bullying the lawmakers?"
Please vote. We need have people talking about our problems. We need to bring awareness about the difference between legal and illegal immigration. The likes of Dobbs often confuse the two.
Send the letters and vote for these questions.
Thanks!

But advocates for skilled immigrantsmany of whom remain stuck for years on H-1Bs waiting in the long queue for permanent residencyworry that the bill is a political maneuver rather than an earnest effort at reform. Aman Kapoor, president of the skilled immigrant advocate group Immigration Voice, says that a more effective bill would ensure H-1B visa workers are on a level playing field with U.S. workers. "Skilled immigrants on H-1Bs don't get the same rights and protections as everyone else," says Kapoor. "So wouldn't the solution be to empower and enable the skilled immigrants on H-1Bs such thatskilled immigrants on H-1s have adequate protections so that no one can take advantage of [them]? But no one wants to talk about protections for skilled immigrants."

We have to understand that there is a myriad of laws; INA, CFR's; USCIS policy binding memos; internal memos; appeals decisions, court cases, precedent aao decisions, precedent legal cases.
Now; the ac21 memo is a memo that uscis officers have to follow. However; the memo is not in accordanc with INA 245 or AC21.
INA 245 states that a valid and approved 140 is needed for a person to get lawful permanent residency.
ac21 says that a person can change jobs after 485 has been pending for more then 180 days.
The above two things are the law.
In ac21 law; it doesn't say anything about the scenario if 140 is revoked by employer. It is totally silent to it.
USCIS in their memos realized that ac21 law would not have any meaning if the employer still controlled the 140 if a person was eligible for ac21; therefore, they issued the memo (memo is not law but binding; memos can be changed; however, there has been nothing public about any possible change).
Memo is clarification which they have been following for many years and as far as I know still binding.
If we look at all the denials on 485 - when 140 is revoked the officer quotes "INA 245" and when MTR is filed - the case gets reopened stating AC21.
It is clear that AC21 supersedes the INA 245 rule.
Ability to pay is an interesting topic but I don't think this kind of denial has anything to do with ability to pay.

What I've said is: IF you think....
If you don't think that way, this doesn't apply. :)
So please stop taking it personally and stop getting all worked up about it... :)

I do not appreciate you pretending to know what I think of everyone in here and their work. (Which just for the record I appreciate very much!)
Simply put: I did not and do not think of anyone in here as an idiot.
So please refrain from saying that in future.

:)I have used AIG for my in-laws visit and didn't had to use it. Why can't we add them to our insurance as dependants? Did anyone tried this?
You cannot add parents to your insurannce specially if it is provided through your employer - the group insurance covers only nuclear family.
Using any India based insurance is extremely risky - I know a family that went through hell and finally paid $18000 to get urgent care for their mother when she developed some tremors - this was the first time she ever got those and the India guys said it is pre-existing and denied - later the doc in India found out it was a allergic response to the pollen in Vermont. How could that be pre existing ?
The other problem is with insurance recognition - most urgent care facilities do not recognize the India insurance or at the very least treat it with extreme skepticism - best is to use US insurance in case there are questions atleast you have a local 800 number for the hospital to call.
These are your parents and this is the US health care system - spend a few hundred more and be safe.

What do you mean by inactivity of a collective "YOU" ? Inactivity in taking on people like Lou or inactivity on participating IV campaigns to get GC quickly ?
.............
Both. Inactivity and uncaring for personal and community interest is the root cause of both GC issue as well as increasing authenticity Lou Dobbs views have been gaining in media (spawning copy-cats in the process).
......
Lets face it, He has the highest ranking show in CNN. Most people who indulge in populist propaganda will be successful , at least in the short run. You need a HUGE propaganda machine even to attempt to take on him. Just read the transcripts of his program to find what kind of words he used against Newyork governor (Indicative of his arrogance from success).
..............
I don't give a damn who he is, or how strong he is. All I care is me and my family might get mugged by the poison he's spewing, and how to stop him in his tracks. That's enough of a motivation to do my best to stop him.
On the other hand if some one gives me a look based on how I look, they will give it even after I get my GC and Citizenship. The mugger will not ask me my visa status. I get mugged even after I became a citizen.
That's why I say it - You are the victim. You should care.
This is not to support the inactivity. I appreciate the efforts put in by one and all and I believe those actions help reduce the suffering.
This is just to point out the fact that some members wittingly or unwittingly suggesting that not having GC is cause for all problems. It certainly help alleviate some but it is not a cure all.
Once again I am merely trying to they are two different issues.
Real issue in both situations is inaction which is harming our community.
Did I post something about GC here? I'm not the one linking GC with Lou Dobbs !
Now that you've linked them, let me put it this way - As long as Lou Dobbs keeps berating "cheap imported labor", and has a "perceived" majority acceptance of his views
1) forget any recapture of EB numbers
2) forget any increase in GC numbers
Did I make myself clear!
