I am speaking in my personal capacity here. While I am all for freedom of expression and assembly, I don't think that rallies will in any way help our cause. We have to talk to people and participate in various forums to make them aware of our cause. Standing and protesting is not going to help us, because our voice will still be lost in the din...we need to speak where it matters and be heard where it matters...

I am not saying rallying is the only way, but do remember that participating in rallies will get us some recognition.

CNN will always ignore us thanks to our friend there, but has New York Times ever reported our plight? Has Jim Leherer ever talked about us? The main stream media does not even know us!

We need to do something that catches the attention of the media; just getting more members and more funds may not be enough. We need to write letters to editors of major newspapers like NYTIMES and WASH POST.

The point is what did we lose by calling. It took us a call which any way is free. Took 2-3 minutes of our time which other wise we were not planning to use in any other better activity. So even if the campaign fails ( I pray it does not) still we havent lost finacially or in any way. Atleast it brought so many people together to do something constructive. Made people understand how a bill works in senate.

To your other point that senetors do not care about non voters then then the only other way is lobbying and paying for campaign funds. Can we do that the answer is plain NO. Most people on H1B are working for blod sucking consultants who pa them far less than what they deserve. How much can they contribute financially if they have dependent wife an kid here and parents in home country. Add to this the job insecurity in current market and there is no guarranty that paying one time will bring any results. Least this way every one contributes.

I have taken my Ex - employer to DOL and USCIS and I was successful getting my money back.

If you go with lawsuit then it becomes partially a Civil case rather than criminal offense.

IV has to priorotize before going to a lobbyist, with very very few contributions made, its very difficult to have everything bundled into a single request.

Its also unfair that L1 has to work for specific company but L1 spouces can work for any company any job, its so funny, when you think H1 has to work for specfic company and only for specfic job, but spouces can work for any compnay any job any salary without any labor department intervention

Immmigration awareness has increased a lot among US voters, when it comes to threat of their jobs being lost, and democratic senators are very much aware of it, hence CIR is no longer their priority.






I am not fighting but YES, my reason to join IV was to find justice to the H-4 not being able to work when L-1 spouses and Agjob spouses (I read this a year ago) could. Although no promises were made from IV, I was surpired today since nothing was ever said regarding no interest in the H-4 cause when many discussion were in place. Here people contribute for their own benefits, I was here for the H-4s, that is why I transcribed part of the conference calls too, so I was somehow a contributer to a cause that doesn't represnt my interests, but I know it represents the interests of the unmarried folks, or married to IT spouses folks.

Hi,

Today I met an attorney(not the one from Insurance..that is WIP still).
He feels that the main target is Rental agency(with deep pockets) and not the others who were included as defendants.

His argument is,
-- I am on H1
-- Not much of bank balance
-- No assets
-- Have a very old 98 model car(not even lexus , BMW etc..)
-- With a spouse and 2 kids to be taken care of

So I am poor chap and there is nothing they can extract much out of my pockets other than the 50K which my insurance will pay. He feels it is pretty straight forward case.The only twist to the story is, he is thinking that some of the defendants(rental agencies and others) may file lawsuits against me [I donno what they can extract out of me] as police report/Insurance agency concluded it as my fault (80% - 20%) after the accident..

In case If I wanted to have my attorney, I need to cough up $275/hr and 5K check upfront and he feels his fee may add upto 10K by the end of all this. So not sure whether just go with insurance agent's attorney for the time being and just wait how it goes, even if the case goes against me as I don't have much bank balance etc I am not sure what they can get out of me..

Any thoughts??

Its only the instigators and flamers, who would want that thread. Personal attacks should be banned on threads. Most people are happy just debating.

The person initiating or using provocation for a personal attack should be banned after a couple of warnings. The victim has no such restrictions and is allowed to retaliate as much as he wants.
