This is truly unfair where country of birth determined who gets an 'Employment' based greencard before someone else. It can only be fixed by eliminating per-country limits.

Yes it is unfair in some ways. Couple of my very close friends (who are also colleagues) --one is of Lebanese Origin, raised in Dubai, and the other, Taiwanese Origin, raised in Uruguay. They are in similar Finance positions as I (though I am a step senior) had the entire process, from the PERM, to card delivery, completed in 11 and 7 months, respectively. Whilst I am waiting the last 5+ years. It can get you down at times, and feels like living in a constant state of "temporariness". However life does go on :)

Very sorry to hear your case. Based on what you said, no one in other cars were disabled or had life threatening injuries. So it is unlikely that the Judge would grant that much money from the Insurance company or you.

You can always file for bankruptcy if worst situation comes. There is no shame in it in such circumstances.

I watched the whole debate, unfortunately ( as expected) they never touched on the question we voted on or the other most popular question about Katrina. There were other popular question too like NASA related stuff which never made it.
Anyways we all did a good job within a short time to bring our question to #2 in the most popular list.
We will try this in the future debates too.

This question is NOT about Illegal immigration but Legal Immigration issues at the govt. level... What do you think of and plan to do about the broken naturalization process that is currently hurting nearly half million highly-skilled and taxpaying legal immigrants already working productively in the United States who find themselves trapped in a system that is taking years longer than intended. The greatest impact of the broken green card process is borne by the legal immigrants and their families. Some of the major grievances faced by the legal immigrants are that they are forced to be stuck with the same employer for years; their spouses not allowed to work, they have a very limited travel freedom and so on. With the current backlog in the system a highly skilled high-tech engineer could take up to 7-10 years to get a green card. Isn't that an unfair deal for a person who works so hard to fulfill his American dream? Again: This question is NOT about Illegal immigration but Legal Immigration issues at the govt. level...

Illegal immigration has been a topic of heated debate and has received much needed attention during this election. In the midst of all the hype and bickering about ILLEGAL immigration, there is a group of people, often forgotten and ignored, who are caught up in a bureaucratic mess and yet are patiently waiting on the path to LEGAL immigration. This is a group of high skilled workers, most of whom have advanced degrees in medicine, engineering and science from Universities in the US. These people have obeyed all laws, worked hard, paid taxes and waited their turn, many for a decade, because of a system that is hopelessly broken and inefficient. I am one of these people and I have been in the US legally for 10 years and still years away from getting a green card. As the President of the United States how do you intend to address the problems faced by future Americans already living and working LEGALLY in the United States? Please note, this question is NOT about ILLEGAL immigration but about LEGAL immigration.

Let us try to get as many votes as possible from all the 25000 members . This is a good chance for all of us to get this issue out to the public. Please tell your friends and family who are not members on immigration voice, ask them to vote. This vote mayn't get us anything except a lame answer but atleast it will get us a big audience to hear our problem and also help us to differentiate ourselves from illegal immigration issues. what do you mean by ramification? you mean advantages? if yes, there are several. that you can be assured of. you can sponsor your parents as fast as you can sponsor your wife. there are many others.

If they have to log this information then they may encash the cheque for this work. :eek: :eek:

USCIS can't cash the checks. A check submitted with AnY application can only be cashed if and when the agency decides that the application can be accepted and processed(initial processing.)

i called a couple of times spoke to Inf officer at NSC ,

&& she told she was not aware of cases where NSC has created rejection letters and sent them also she added they just completed june filers and will be starting to proceed with JULY .

Now reg. my processing times:

She also adviced most probably i should receive some kind of communication before end of july !!

We have these 3 bills in House. Thats fine. But what about Senate. There is only 1 bill in Senate. Should we also persuade some senator to place similar bills there ?

Yes a new memo was issued in 2009 (After DHS confirmed that they have worked with FBI to reduce the response time.) Now since FBI claims that 90/95% of the requests are happening within 6 months. DHS/USCIS is not allowing automatic approval of GC is FBI check was the only peice pending and was pending for more than 180 days.

I know this because the message I posted just before english_august was also repeated 2-3 times. Kindly give others benefit of the doubt before cherry picking their faults.

You are already enjoying the benefit of filing 485/EAD/AP in July-07. Atleast be considerate towards people who contributed their time, energy and resources to - in lot of ways influence the outcome of July visa bulletin.

You are right. L1s are paid shit and are not given proper insurance. Once L1 guy got sick and he went to Doctor and pharmacy, Pharmacy charged him $250 coz they wont take the shitty insurance (some Indian Insurance), L1s are being absued a lot

I feel sorry for your situation and you seem to be under a lot of stress. However lets show some civility in our discourse and not make this a blame game.

When an american loses his job, he feels exactly the same way as you do, except that he doesn't really distinguish a H1-B from an L1.

Replace 'L1' with 'H1-B' in your comments and see how they look,

Lets work together to stop the abuses in the system.
Remember that at the end, the solution should be fair to all the parties involved - immigrants, americans and the corporations.

Point 1: We need to target news media here in the US primarily, not abroad. All good publicity is welcome, though. Please see a new thread started today by one of the moderators called "Ideas to increase Publicity of IV." There are key action items outlined there that every member can help out with.

Point 2: What will be shared (and with whom) will be decided soon by the core group. We used to send out regular updates, but that has suffered lately because we are all volunteers and some volunteers who were in charge of it are tied down with other things at work and home.

Point 3: We are already talking to people in academia and the academies.


Point 4: No member is "discounted." All are welcome, but we really need non-paying members to start chipping in money. What people decide to contribute is their business, and entirely theirs. Whether it is $20 or $50 or $100 or $500...that is entirely the call of the individual. This activity is not cheap, rather it requires a steady cash flow. We are obligated under the laws to hire a CPA and everything will be handled and accounted for.

First of all I commend your and everyone in putting their effort. I totally agree with you that we need more people and money. I think people are first to come and money will automatically follow.

While word-of-mouth is effective we can augment this to get attention using other means:

1. We can persuade news portals to advertise for our cause in a corner that might help us to get more people. Most Indians I know read Indian news everyday. If we can convince e.g., eenadu.net a telugu newspaper, to run ads we can get attention of lot people.

2. Please start selling the current acheivements that are not confidential. Like you might have been successful in persuading a high profile senator about this problem. Put his quotes on our site and also possible grab attention from bloggers.

3. If we can also tap academia who support skilled immigration that would help us. Let us put there studies in our reference section (I am assuming we didn't do this yet). This
makes senator to reference our site and make their lives easy.

4. Please do not discount freewill members who do not have a GC problem but savor
helping others with immigration problem. It could be Americans or Immigrants we'll get them all in.

I think these actions will help us grow our strength. I know it is easy said than done. I will send a mail to rediff and eenadu to put our banner on their frontpage. If anyone has contacts working for these website. That will make it whole lot easier.

It took me around 4 years. EB2 India, started as a scientist later physician and endless headaches ...... but its over now. Got my card yesterday. Its an amazing stress relief and confidence booster.

I could have tried EB1 too but wasnt sure how it would turn out hence stuck to EB2.

PD Dec 2005, EB2, RD for 485 Sept 2007. Welcome notice August 5 2008.

For some odd reason I got a red on this forum. I dont know who did that and why. But I dont care.....

For those who are waiting: Keep pushing and thinking of new ways of making this work. if you are EB3 try to become EB2 and even EB1. In the end all that matters is getting the card.

As regards this forum. I never contributed but found this to a good source of information.

My PD is also Dec 2005 (EB2) and RD for 485 is Sep 2007. When did you finish your FP? I am just trying to understand the similarities b/w our cases although it may be a pointless exercise.

Twice talked to IO :- First time response.. we are working on your case..
second response :- As per our info on my screen, it is not yet assigned to IO and neither pre-adjudicated. One person says one thing and another says another thing. I do not know what screen they are looking and how they are pulling info. What is the point of puting CSR if they have half baked info or worse no info on where the case is.
Have infopass appt late next week. Guess another garbage collecton day..:-)
